# Excel Text Tools

Pick Excel or CSV columns and stack steps in order: convert full-width and half-width text in bulk, split a column by a delimiter, combine columns, zero-pad numbers so leading zeros stay, and convert hiragana and katakana. Changed cells are highlighted, and you can save as Excel (.xlsx) or CSV.

## How to use

1. Drop an Excel (.xlsx) or CSV / TSV file, or click “Choose files”. “Try a sample” creates a practice member list.
2. Under “Target columns”, pick the columns to change. At first every column is picked.
3. Choose a step under “Add a step” and press “Add”. Steps run from top to bottom; use the up and down buttons to change the order.
4. In the “Result” table, check the yellow cells (changed) and blue cells (made by split or combine). Counts are shown for each step too.
5. Choose the format (Excel / CSV) and encoding, then download.

## Use cases

- Make letters and katakana consistent column by column in a list where “ＡＢＣ１２３” and “ﾔﾏﾀﾞ” are mixed
- Split “Taro Yamada” into a family-name and a given-name column, or join prefecture and city into one column
- Zero-pad “7” to “00007” so the codes match another system’s five-digit format
- Cut the first characters of a product code, add a prefix such as “ID-”, or replace text
- Convert a reading column to katakana or hiragana before sorting it

## What it does

### Steps stacked in order

Run full/half-width, kana, spaces, upper and lower case, zero-padding, cutting, replacing, splitting and combining in the order you need. Changing the order can change the result, and the preview shows it.

### Pick the columns for each run

Only the picked columns change. Columns made by split or combine can also be included in later steps.

### Letters, symbols and kana converted separately

Choose the direction for each kind: letters and digits, symbols, or katakana. Change only the kinds you need.

### Zero-padding keeps the text

Digits-only cells are padded to the width you choose and saved as text, so “00123” keeps its leading zeros. Values are not turned into numbers.

### Check the changes before saving

Changed cells are yellow, made columns are blue, and every step shows its count. Switch to the original data to check nothing unexpected changed.

| Zero-pad digits (saved as text) | Supported | — |
| Convert to numbers or dates | Not supported | Use “Excel Cleanup” to unify number and date formats |
| Several sheets in one run | Partial | One sheet at a time |
| Keep formulas, formatting, merged cells | Not supported | Only values are saved |
| Legacy Excel (.xls) | Not supported | Re-save as .xlsx in Excel first |

## Limits & notes

- Works on smartphones too, but picking columns and working on large files is easier on a PC.
- Up to 100 MB per file. Large files take longer to process.
- Per step: find and replacement text up to 200 characters, prefix and suffix up to 100, cut counts and start positions up to 10,000, zero-pad width 1–30, split into 2–10 columns.
- A run stops after 10 seconds. If a regular expression is slow, shorten it or pick fewer columns.
- Only cell values are saved. Formatting, formulas, merged cells and data validation are not carried over.

## Privacy & safety

Reading, processing and building the download all happen in your browser. Your data is never sent to or stored on a server.

## FAQ

### How do I convert full-width letters and digits to half-width in Excel?

Open the file, add “Letters & digits to half-width”, and pick the columns under “Target columns”. The conversion runs per column without functions such as ASC, and the header row is unchanged.

### How do I split text into columns by a delimiter in Excel?

Add “Split into columns by a delimiter”, then enter the delimiter (for example “,”) and the number of columns to make. The last column keeps the rest of the text. You can keep or remove the source column.

### How do I combine two columns into one in Excel?

Add “Combine columns into one”, pick two or more columns, and enter a delimiter. Empty cells are skipped, and the combined column is added at the right edge of the table.

### How do I stop leading zeros from disappearing in Excel?

“Zero-pad digits to a width” saves the result as text, so the zeros stay. A zero already lost in a value that Excel saved as a number cannot be restored.

### How do I convert hiragana to katakana for a reading column?

Add “Hiragana to katakana” or “Katakana to hiragana”. For half-width kana, add “Half-width katakana to full-width” first so the conversion is reliable.

### How do I clean up notation variations across a whole table?

For unifying dates and numbers or removing empty rows, “Excel Cleanup” is the better fit. This tool is for picking columns and stacking text steps in order.

### Is my data uploaded?

No. Everything runs in your browser, and your data never leaves your device.
