# Office to PDF (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Convert one Word (.docx), Excel (.xlsx) or PowerPoint (.pptx) file to PDF at a time. This is the one tool that sends your file to our server for the conversion. It is deleted as soon as the conversion ends and is never stored. The layout is close to the original, but substitute fonts can shift line breaks and page breaks slightly.

## How to use

1. Drop a file or click “Choose file” (.docx, .xlsx or .pptx). Old formats (.doc, .xls, .ppt), macro-enabled formats (.docm and so on) and files over 20 MB are not sent; the reason is shown instead.
2. Check the file, then press “Convert to PDF”. The file is sent only when you press this button.
3. When the conversion ends, the first page and the page count are shown.
4. Press “Download PDF” to save it. The name keeps the original name with the extension changed to .pdf.

## Use cases

- Turn a Word application or report into a PDF for the required format
- Send an Excel quote or table as a PDF that matches its printed layout
- Make a PowerPoint deck into a PDF for handouts
- Save an Office file received on a phone as a PDF

## What it does

### Shows the reason before sending

The extension, size and first bytes are checked first, and clearly unsupported files are not sent. Macro-enabled formats (.docm and so on), old formats and files over 20 MB never reach the server. A mismatch between the extension and the contents, or macros inside the file, is checked on the server, which then shows the reason.

### Deleted right after conversion

The file is deleted as soon as the conversion ends. It is not stored, and its name and contents are not written to logs.

### Excel follows the print settings

Excel sheets are converted using the print area and page breaks set in the workbook. The better the print layout is set up, the less the PDF shifts.

### Check the result before saving

After conversion, the first page and the page count are shown so you can check the result before you download the PDF.

## Privacy & safety

This is the only tool that sends your file to our server, and only for the conversion. The file is deleted as soon as the conversion ends. It is not stored or shared with third parties, and its name and contents are not written to logs. The file is sent only when you press “Convert to PDF”.

## FAQ

### How do I convert a Word file to PDF?

Choose a .docx file and press “Convert to PDF”. When the conversion ends, you can download the PDF. For an old .doc file, save it as .docx in Word first, then choose it.

### Does the server keep my file?

No. The file is deleted as soon as the conversion ends and is not stored. Its name and contents are not written to logs. The file is sent only when you press “Convert to PDF”.

### Does the PDF look the same as the file in Word?

It looks close, but it is not identical. The converter cannot use the same fonts as Word, so it substitutes other fonts. Line breaks and page breaks can shift slightly as a result. For example, a model work rules document from the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare that Word shows as 94 pages became 99 pages after conversion (our measurement). Check the PDF before you submit or print it.

### Why can’t I convert .doc or .xls (old formats)?

This tool expects .docx, .xlsx or .pptx files, so old formats are not accepted. Open the file in Office, save it as .docx, .xlsx or .pptx, and choose it again.

### Can I convert files with macros or a password?

No. Macros are never run, and macro-enabled formats (.docm, .xlsm, .pptm and so on) are not accepted. Password-protected files are not accepted either. Remove the password and save the file again.

### Can I turn a PDF back into Word?

Not with this tool. We do not currently offer a way to make an editable Word document from a PDF.
