# PowerPoint Media Extractor

List the pictures, video, sound and embedded files in a PowerPoint (.pptx) file, then save them one by one or together as a ZIP. Each item shows the slide it is used on, and names such as Slide3\_image2.png show where it came from. Your file is processed only in your browser.

## How to use

1. Choose a .pptx file or drop it here. “Try a sample” builds a sample deck with pictures, an unused picture and an embedded workbook on your device.
2. In the list, check each picture’s look, size and file size, and the slide it is used on. Video and sound show their format and size.
3. Items that nothing in the deck uses are marked “Unused”.
4. Tick what you want and press “Save selected”. One item is saved in its own format; several are packed into one ZIP. To save a single item, press “Save” on its row.
5. File names show the slide, such as Slide3\_image2.png, and a number is added when names repeat.

## Use cases

- Pull every photo and chart from a proposal at its original resolution in one go
- Take a video from a talk to reuse in another document
- Check that no unused picture is left in the deck before you distribute it
- Open the data behind an Excel chart embedded in a slide

## What it does

### Shows the slides that use each item

Follows the relationships (rels) from slides, layouts and masters to each picture and shows the slides that use it. An item used on several slides is saved under the name of the first slide.

### Lists video and sound too

Lists the MP4, MOV, WMV, AVI, MP3, WAV and M4A files in ppt/media with their format and size. Video and sound are saved as they are, not played.

### Reads the format from the content

Identifies PNG, JPEG, GIF, BMP, WebP, TIFF, EMF, WMF and SVG from the first bytes, not the extension. Browsers cannot draw EMF, WMF or TIFF, so those get no thumbnail; they show the format and size and can still be saved.

### Takes items out without changing the deck

Only reads the file; the .pptx is never rewritten. Each ZIP is built fresh when you save. Against ZIP bombs, every part is checked for its unpacked size and its expansion ratio before it is taken out.

## Supported formats

### Files it reads

- .pptx (PowerPoint 2007 and later)
- .pptm (macro-enabled; only read, macros never run)

### What it takes out

- Pictures: PNG, JPEG, GIF, BMP, WebP (with preview); EMF, WMF, TIFF, SVG (save only)
- Video and sound: MP4, MOV, WMV, AVI, MP3, WAV, M4A and others (save only)
- Embedded files: Excel, Word, PDF and others

## Capability matrix

| Save selected items one by one or as a ZIP, with slide-based names | Supported | — |
| Preview of PNG, JPEG, GIF, BMP and WebP | Supported | — |
| Playing video or sound | Not supported | Save only. Play the file with a video or audio player on your device |
| Showing EMF, WMF, TIFF and SVG | Partial | They can be saved, but the browser does not show them; only the format name is shown |
| Legacy .ppt files and password-protected files | Not supported | Cannot be read. Save as a new format first |
| Re-compressing, converting or editing pictures and video | Not supported | Items are taken out unchanged |
| Position and size of an item on a slide | Not supported | Only the files are taken out; placement information is not included |

## Limits & notes

- Files up to 1 GB, up to 20,000 parts in a ZIP. A part is taken out only if it is up to 512 MB unpacked.
- A part that expands more than 1,000 times its compressed size is not taken out, because it may be a ZIP bomb (only parts over 1 MB are checked for this).
- The selected items together may be up to 1 GB. Previews are made for pictures up to 64 MB and 64 megapixels; large video is listed without a preview.
- It also works on phones, but for decks of several hundred MB with video a computer is recommended.
- Items used only in notes or masters are labelled with those places.

## Privacy & safety

Reading, listing, previews and building the ZIP all happen in your browser. Neither the file’s contents nor its name is ever sent to or stored on a server.

## FAQ

### How do I save all the pictures from a PowerPoint file at once?

Open the .pptx, tick the pictures you want and press “Save selected”. With more than one, they are packed into a ZIP with names that show their slide.

### Can I take video out of a PowerPoint file?

Yes. Video and sound are listed too and can be saved as they are, with their format and size shown. The tool does not play or edit them.

### How do I know which slide uses a picture?

The slide number is shown for each item, and the file name uses it. Items that nothing in the deck uses are marked “Unused”.

### Why does an EMF or WMF picture show no thumbnail?

Browsers cannot draw EMF or WMF, so no thumbnail is made. The format and size are shown, and the picture can still be saved. Open it in a drawing program or PowerPoint afterwards.

### Can it open old .ppt files or password-protected decks?

No. Old .ppt files cannot be read, and the contents of a password-protected file cannot be read either. Remove the password and save as .pptx first.

### Are my files uploaded?

No. Everything is processed in your browser and nothing is sent to a server.
