# Video & Audio Inspector

Add a video or audio file to see its container, length, resolution, frame rate, codec (H.264, HEVC, VP9, AV1 and others), bitrate and HDR, with a guide to whether it can play on Android and upload to YouTube or X (iPhone and Windows are not judged, because no official table was confirmed). The file is not sent anywhere; only its contents are read in your browser.

## How to use

1. Drop a video or audio file, or choose one with “Choose file”. “Try the sample” makes a 3-second video in your browser to try.
2. In “Overview”, check the container, length, size and overall bitrate.
3. In “Video”, “Audio” and “Subtitles”, check the codec name, profile, resolution, orientation, frame rate and HDR.
4. In “Playback and upload guide”, see the guide and its basis for Android, YouTube and X (iPhone and Windows are not judged). If a target is not usable, use the links below to convert or compress.
5. Choose several files to see them side by side. “Copy as JSON” or “Copy as text” saves the result.

## Use cases

- Check whether an H.265 (HEVC) video from a phone plays on a PC or an older device
- Find out from the codec and resolution why an MP4 will not play
- Check the length and format before uploading to YouTube or X
- Record the resolution, frame rate and bitrate of a video you deliver
- Check whether shooting dates or locations remain before sharing

## What it does

### Codec details for video and audio

H.264 shows its profile and level (for example High 4.0). HEVC, VP9 and AV1 show profile, level and bit depth. Audio shows the AAC profile and channel count.

### Playback and upload guide with its basis

For built-in playback on Android, and for posting to YouTube and X, the guide cites official tables or published limits. It gives no verdict it cannot back up.

### Check whether this browser can read it

Using the browser feature that decodes video, the inspector checks whether this browser can read the video and audio, and says so when it cannot.

### HDR and rotation

HDR (PQ and HLG) is detected from the colour transfer, and the orientation (landscape or portrait) is shown after rotation. A portrait phone video shows as portrait.

### Compare files and copy the result

A comparison table lists length, size, resolution and codec side by side. Copy the result as JSON or text. Files are never sent.

## Supported formats

### Input

- Video: MP4, M4V, MOV, WebM, MKV and others
- Audio: MP3, M4A, WAV, Ogg and others (within what the browser reads)

### Shown

- Container, length, size and overall bitrate
- Information for each video, audio and subtitle track
- Whether metadata exists (values are not shown)

## Capability matrix

| Feature | Support | Notes |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Container, length, size and overall bitrate | Supported | — |
| Codec, resolution and frame rate for each video, audio and subtitle track | Supported | Frame rate and track bitrate are estimates from part of the packets |
| Profile, level and bit depth for H.264, HEVC, VP9 and AV1 | Partial | Codecs without a reader show only their name |
| HDR (PQ and HLG) and rotation | Supported | — |
| Whether this browser can read the file | Supported | — |
| Whether metadata exists (shooting date, camera, location, title) | Supported | Values are not shown |
| Playback and upload guide (Android, YouTube, X) | Partial | A guide from official tables and published limits, not a guarantee |
| iPhone and Windows playback | Not supported | Not judged, because we could not confirm an official compatibility table |
| LINE | Not supported | Not judged, because we could not confirm an official compatibility table |
| Repairing a damaged file | Not supported | The file is never changed |
| Playing, converting or compressing the video | Not supported | Use the video converter or the video compression tool |
| Removing or editing metadata | Not supported | Use a metadata editing tool before sharing |

## Limits & notes

- The file is not sent; it is read in your browser. Reading does not change the original file.
- Frame rate and track bitrate are estimates from part of the packets, so they can differ from the average over the whole file.
- The guide is based on official compatibility tables and published limits. The device, app version and the file’s own settings change the result.
- X’s 140 seconds is the limit for a standard account; the Premium limit is different. iPhone and Windows are not judged because no official table was confirmed.
- Works on a phone (390 px wide). Large files and comparisons are easier on a PC.

## Privacy & safety

The file is never sent off your device; its contents are read in your browser. The page shows contents (codec, length and so on), and metadata only as present or absent, never the shooting date, camera or location values. A copied result includes the file name.

## FAQ

### How do I check the codec of a video?

Add the file. The codec names for video and audio (H.264, HEVC, VP9, AV1 and others) and their profile and level are shown. Check the codec rows.

### Why will my MP4 not play?

One common cause is that the codec, such as H.265 (HEVC) or AV1, is not supported by the device or OS that plays it. Check the guide for each target, and convert to MP4 (H.264 and AAC) if needed.

### Where can I see the resolution and frame rate?

In the video rows. The resolution is the display size after rotation, so a phone video shot upright shows as portrait. The frame rate is an estimate from part of the packets.

### Can I tell whether it plays on iPhone?

No. This inspection does not judge iPhone playback, because no official Apple compatibility table was confirmed. Check the codec, such as H.265 (HEVC) or H.264, in the video rows.

### Can I see whether shooting dates or locations are stored?

Yes. Only whether they exist is shown, not their values. Remove the metadata from the file before sharing it.

### Is the file uploaded?

No. The contents are read entirely in your browser, and the file is never sent off your device.
