Music Tag Studio

Edit and save the tags of MP3 and FLAC files in one table. Title, artist, album, track number, year, genre, lyrics and album art are supported, and garbled Shift_JIS tags common in old Japanese MP3s can be re-read and saved as UTF-8 / UTF-16. Audio data is not changed by a single byte, and everything stays on your device.

Up to 300 files at a time, 256 MiB per file. Audio data is not changed; only the tag area is rewritten.

Sample: three MP3s with garbled Shift_JIS tags (title, artist, album only; number the tracks with the sequence tool)

To rename many files, use Batch Rename; for text encoding repair in general, use CSV Encoding Fix.

Edit music tags in a table and save them without changing the audio
  1. Drop music files, or use “Choose files” / “Choose folder” (MP3 and FLAC can be edited; M4A, OGG and Opus are view only).

  2. Edit tags directly in the table. Title, artist, album, track, disc, year, genre and composer are in the table; comment, lyrics and album art are in the row’s “Details”.

  3. For many files, use “Bulk edit”: fill a column with one value, number the tracks, import tags from file names such as “01 - Title”, build file names from tags, or set album art for all.

  4. Garbled MP3s are detected automatically and the re-read result is shown. If it is wrong, choose the encoding under “Re-read garbled text” in the settings.

  5. Save one file with “Save”, or all changed files with “Save changed files as ZIP”. On every save the written result is read back and checked, and the audio bytes are compared with the original.

What it does

Audio data is not changed by a byte

Only the tag area is rewritten; the audio part is copied as it is. On every save the written result is read back to check the tags, and the audio bytes are compared with the original. If they differ, nothing is written out.

Fixes garbled tags of old Japanese MP3s

ID3v1 / ID3v2 text declared as ISO-8859-1 but actually written in Shift_JIS (or EUC-JP, UTF-8) is detected and re-read, and the result is shown in the table. Saving writes UTF-8 for ID3v2.4 or UTF-16 for ID3v2.3.

Bulk editing in a table

Fill a column with one value, number tracks, import tags from a file-name pattern, build file names from tags, or set album art for every file on one screen. Pattern import scans for the separator text in order, so hostile names cannot freeze it.

ID3v2 details handled properly

Reads ID3v2.2 / 2.3 / 2.4 including padding, extended headers, unsynchronisation and v2.4 syncsafe frame sizes. Unknown frames (PRIV, UFID, TXXX…) and untouched fields are kept as they are.

FLAC: Vorbis comment and PICTURE directly

Rebuilds the FLAC metadata blocks while keeping STREAMINFO, ReplayGain and other existing entries and blocks. Album art is validated down to its structure (JPEG / PNG) before it is embedded.

Save one by one, or as a ZIP

Bundle only the changed files into a ZIP. Keep the original names or build them from the tags.

Use cases

  • MP3s ripped from old CDs show garbled titles and artists and need fixing
  • Give a whole album the same album name, artist and year, plus sequential track numbers
  • Put the title and track number from file names like “01 - Title.mp3” into the tags (or build file names from tags)
  • Add, replace or remove cover art in FLAC and MP3 files
  • Fix tags quickly in the browser without re-encoding the audio

Limits & notes

  • Up to 300 files at a time, 256 MiB per file and 64 MiB for an ID3v2 tag.
  • A ZIP of changed files is limited to 1 GiB in total. Save the files one by one if it is exceeded.
  • When an MP3 is switched between ID3v2.3 and 2.4, frames that do not exist in the other version (TDAT, TIME, TDRL …) are dropped. While the version is “Keep”, unknown frames stay.
  • Compressed or encrypted frames (very rare) cannot be carried over and are lost on save (the count is shown in the details).
  • Fields with several values (co-artists …) are shown joined with “; ” and become a single value once you edit and save the field.
  • Reading and writing are our own implementation and every write is read back and checked. Back up important files before saving.
  • On phones, large albums or files near 256 MiB may fail to load for lack of memory, so a PC is recommended.

Privacy & safety

Music files, tags and file names are not uploaded; the browser reads and processes them on your device. Contents and names are never sent to a server, stored or analysed. Album art is only displayed as a blob image and is never interpreted as HTML.

FAQ

Why are the titles and artists of my MP3 garbled?
Old Japanese MP3s often store tags in Shift_JIS while declaring “ISO-8859-1”, so players may read them with another encoding. This tool detects it and re-reads the text as Shift_JIS; saving writes UTF-8 for ID3v2.4 or UTF-16 for ID3v2.3.
Does editing MP3 tags change the sound quality?
No. Only the tag area is rewritten and the audio data is copied as it is. On every save the audio bytes are checked to be identical to the original.
What is the difference between ID3v1 and ID3v2?
ID3v1 is a fixed 128-byte block at the end of the file with 30-byte fields. ID3v2 sits at the start and can hold long text, Unicode, pictures and lyrics. This tool writes ID3v2 and lets you keep or remove ID3v1.
Can I give many MP3s the same album name and sequential track numbers?
Yes. In “Bulk edit” you can fill a column with one value, number the tracks from top to bottom (the total too), or import tags from a file-name pattern such as “01 - Title”.
Can I edit M4A or OGG tags?
No. M4A / MP4, Ogg Vorbis and Opus are view only. Writing is for MP3 and FLAC. This tool cannot convert audio.
Can it fetch track names from the internet like CDDB?
No. The tool works without using the network, so online databases are not used. Enter tags by hand or import them from file names.

Audio Converter and Video Audio Extractor

To get just the sound from a video, choose the video and an output format (MP3, M4A, WAV, Opus or FLAC). If the source audio is AAC, M4A is written without re-encoding, so the quality does not change. Your file is never uploaded.

Audio Editor

To cut unwanted parts of audio, drag on the waveform to select a range and press “Remove selected ranges”. To join clips, use “Join and edit” to set the order and any silence between them. You can save as WAV or MP3, or as M4A or Opus where your browser can write them. Your file is never uploaded.

Batch Rename

Combine rules to rename files in bulk. Check old → new names live, catch duplicates and invalid names, then save renamed copies as a ZIP or into a folder. Files are never uploaded.

CSV Encoding Fix

Convert CSV files that show garbled text in Excel to UTF-8 with BOM or Shift_JIS, with automatic encoding detection. Mojibake that was already saved, such as “日本語”, can usually be restored too.

Archive Filename Fix — ZIP Mojibake & Mac Clutter Repair

Names garbled when a ZIP made on Japanese Windows is opened on a Mac, or __MACOSX folders and split voiced marks when a Mac ZIP is opened on Windows: drop the ZIP and both are fixed. Names are rewritten as UTF-8 and clutter is removed; compressed data is copied without recompression. See the names before and after side by side. Several ZIPs at once, all on your device.
