Convert to WOFF2 for the web
Drop font files or use “Choose files” (TTF, OTF, WOFF, WOFF2, TTC; several at once). “Try a sample” loads two sample typefaces.
In “View & coverage” see the names, version, designer, licence text, glyph count and coverage of JIS level 1/2, jōyō and jinmeiyō kanji and Unicode blocks.
Change the preview text, size and line height; move variable-font axis sliders; switch OpenType features such as liga, palt and vert on or off. The character grid shows the glyphs the font really has.
In “Compare”, pick 2–4 fonts to show the same text side by side.
In “Convert & subset”, first read the embedding permission (fsType) and licence and tick “I have checked the licence”, then convert to WOFF2 / WOFF or create a subset with only the characters you list, and save.
What it does
Coverage by Japanese standards
Counts how many of JIS X 0208 level 1 (2,965) and level 2 (3,390) kanji, jōyō kanji (2,136) and jinmeiyō kanji (863) the font contains, plus per-Unicode-block counts.
Names, licence text and embedding permission
Shows family, style, version, designer, copyright notice, the licence text stored in the font and the OS/2 embedding permission (fsType) as written. It does not decide whether you may use the font.
Variable axes and OpenType features
Drag wght / wdth and other axes, and set features such as liga, palt, vert and kern to default / on / off in the live preview.
WOFF2 / WOFF conversion and subsetting
Turn one font of a TTF, OTF or TTC into WOFF2 or WOFF, and unpack WOFF back to TTF/OTF. Subsetting (HarfBuzz hb-subset) keeps cmap, spacing and vertical forms. Each output is re-read to confirm its glyph count.

Previews use fonts loaded under a name generated for this tool only (FontFace), so a loaded font cannot change how the site looks, and fonts never leave your device.
Use cases
- Check whether a web font covers the Japanese characters you need (JIS levels, jōyō kanji)
- Compare candidate fonts with the same text
- Turn a TTF or OTF into WOFF2 for the web
- Cut a font down to the characters a site uses to reduce its size
- See how variable-font axes and OpenType features such as palt and vert behave

Limits & notes
- Up to 30 MB per file, 16 loaded fonts (8 files per add) and 4 fonts in a comparison.
- A subset can keep up to 20,000 characters, and characters you do not list become unavailable.
- Coverage counts characters present in the cmap. It does not judge glyph quality.
- The embedding permission (fsType) and licence text are displayed as stored in the font. Check the licence with the font’s distributor before converting or subsetting.
- Fonts the browser rejects (for example damaged ones) cannot be previewed, but their names and coverage are still shown.
- Subsetting also tidies hinting and other data for removed glyphs, so the output is not byte-identical to the source.
- Phones can use it too, but loading several fonts is heavy, so a PC is recommended.
Privacy & safety
Loading, analysing, previewing, converting and subsetting all happen inside your browser. Fonts are never sent to or stored on a server, and file names and contents are not included in analytics.
