What it does

Finds the content area automatically

Each page is drawn and the area of darker content (text, figures, rules) is measured. A single stray speck is ignored.

One area for all pages, or per page

Use the combined content area of all pages so the pages stay aligned, or trim each page to its own content.

Margin to keep, in mm

Choose how much space to keep around the content, starting from 0 mm, so the content is not cut too tightly.

Set the frame by hand

Type the amounts for each side, or drag the edges of the frame in the preview.

Content unchanged

Text and images are not redrawn; only the area a viewer shows (the CropBox) changes, so quality is kept.

Use cases

  • Remove the white margins left by scanning or conversion to make the content fill the page
  • Trim a document whose content sits in different places on each page
  • Keep a few millimetres of space around the content for printing or screen viewing

Limits & notes

  • Also works on phones and tablets, but a PC is more reliable when moving the frame by hand.
  • Up to 300 MB and 1000 pages per file.
  • The content area is found from an image of about 600 pixels on the longest side of each page.
  • Trimming only changes the visible area. Text and images outside it stay in the PDF, and some viewers can show them again.
  • Some viewers and printers may still show the area outside the trimmed box.

FAQ

Does trimming delete the text outside the area?
No. Trimming only changes the visible area (the CropBox), so text and images outside it stay in the PDF. To remove that information, use PDF Redact.
Can I trim every page to the same margins?
Yes. “Same area on all pages (auto)” trims all pages to one area that contains the content of every page. Choose “Auto per page” for a different area on each page.
What if I cut too much?
Increase “Margin to keep (mm)”. With “Set by hand”, reduce the amounts for the sides.
Are light backgrounds and dark edges trimmed?
A paper that is close to white is trimmed to its content. A grey scan background or dark scan edges may be kept as content, so set them by hand.
Does trimming reduce quality?
No. The page content is not redrawn, only the visible area changes, so text and image quality are the same as before.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. Finding, trimming and saving all happen in your browser; the PDF is never sent to a server.
