PDF Editor

Lay text (Japanese included), shapes, arrows, a highlighter, freehand drawing and images on top of a PDF, and fill in its form fields. Everything is written as PDF vectors and real text, never as a picture. Rewriting the original text and true redaction are not possible.

How to use

  1. Drop a PDF or click “Choose files”. “Try a sample” opens a form to play with.

  2. Pick “Text”, “Rectangle”, “Arrow”, “Highlighter”, “Pen”, “Image” or “White-out” above, then click or drag on the page. Colour, width and font size are on the right.

  3. With “Select”, click an added item: drag to move, drag a corner ■ to resize, the ● above to rotate. Keys (arrows, + / -, [ ], Delete), Undo and Redo work too.

  4. For a PDF with fields, enter values in the “Form” tab. The “Pages” tab rotates and deletes pages and inserts blank ones.

  5. Press “Export PDF”, check the preview drawn by pdf.js, and download. You can keep editing after exporting.

What it does

Real, searchable text

Text with Japanese characters embeds only the needed glyphs of Noto Sans JP (a subset); Latin text uses the standard fonts. It is PDF text, not an image, so it can be searched and copied after export. The font (about 5 MB) is fetched once, only when you type Japanese.

Shapes, arrows, highlights and pen as vectors

Rectangles, ellipses, lines, arrows, the highlighter and the pen are written as PDF drawing commands (paths), so they stay sharp at any zoom. The highlighter is translucent with Multiply blending, so the text below stays readable. The pen thins its points into a smooth curve.

Correct on rotated and cropped pages

Coordinates account for the page’s /Rotate (0, 90, 180, 270°), CropBox offsets and UserUnit, so items land exactly where and how you see them.

Form filling (AcroForm) and flattening

Fill text fields, checkboxes, radio buttons, combo boxes and list boxes and save. Japanese values are drawn with an embedded font in the field appearance. Fields without an appearance, and fields in a PDF that asks viewers to redraw them (NeedAppearances), are drawn on export as well. Multi-line fields wrap Japanese too, and an “auto” font size becomes the largest of 12–6 pt that fits. “Flatten” turns fields into page content, only if you choose it.

The rest of the PDF is kept

The file is edited in place, so existing annotations, bookmarks, form fields and metadata stay. A deleted page is emptied before it is dropped, and values of fields that lived only on it, and its structure information (such as alternative text in a tagged PDF), do not remain in the file.

Check the exported PDF

The exported file is drawn again by pdf.js, so you see the real output before you download. Until you export, every added item can be edited again.

Use cases

  • Fill in an application or notification form PDF, including Japanese, and save it
  • Add “Approved” or “Confidential” text, arrows, boxes or highlights to a document PDF
  • Mark up a drawing or screenshot PDF with hand-drawn circles and lines
  • Delete unneeded pages, turn sideways pages upright and insert blank pages

Limits & notes

  • PDFs up to 300 MB. Up to 500 added items.
  • A text item takes up to 2,000 characters and 60 lines. Font size is 6–120 pt on screen and line width 0–20 pt.
  • Images are PNG / JPEG, up to 20 MB and 36 megapixels each.
  • A pen stroke is thinned to at most 400 points.
  • A form value takes up to 5,000 characters. Characters Noto Sans JP does not have, such as emoji, cannot be used.
  • If you type Japanese, the Japanese font (about 5 MB) is fetched once when you export.
  • Password-protected PDFs cannot be opened.

Privacy & safety

Viewing, editing, form filling and exporting all happen in your browser; neither your PDF nor the images and text you add are sent to a server. The Japanese font is served from this site, with no external server involved.

FAQ

Can I add Japanese text to a PDF?
Yes. Pick “Text”, click the page and type in the “Text” box on the right. Japanese embeds only the needed glyphs of Noto Sans JP; Latin text uses the standard fonts. It is PDF text, not an image, so it stays searchable and copyable after export. The Japanese font (about 5 MB) is fetched once, only when you type Japanese.
Does white-out really delete the text underneath?
No. White-out lays a white rectangle on top, so the text or image underneath stays inside the PDF and can be copied, searched or extracted by other tools. This tool has no true redaction that deletes the content. To hide personal data before sharing, check the result with Share Safe Check, which can verify black-box redaction.
Can I rewrite the text that is already in the PDF?
No, editing existing text is not supported. You can cover it with a white-out and lay new text on top, but the original text stays in the PDF (white-out only hides). To replace it completely, edit the original file in the app that made it.
If I fill in a form and save, do the values remain when I reopen it? Does Japanese work?
Yes. Values are saved as the values of the PDF’s form fields (AcroForm), so Acrobat and other viewers show them. Japanese values work too; the field appearance is drawn with an embedded font. “Flatten” turns the fields into page content, after which they can no longer be edited as fields. XFA-only forms are not supported.
Can I edit added shapes and text later?
Until you export, you can select, move, resize, rotate, recolour or delete them, and undo / redo. After exporting you can keep editing and export again. But once you reopen the exported PDF, the added items are ordinary PDF drawing and cannot be edited individually, here or elsewhere.
What about deleting or rotating pages, and existing annotations and bookmarks?
You can rotate and delete pages and insert blank ones; use PDF Organize to reorder. The file is edited in place, so existing annotations, bookmarks and form fields stay. The content of a deleted page does not remain. A bookmark that pointed at it keeps its title but no longer jumps anywhere, and links to it are removed. A digitally signed PDF loses its signature when exported.
