Remove Blank PDF Pages

Finds the blank pages in a scanned PDF by how much ink each page has and by written marks. Pages with text or marks are never judged blank. Check the result before removing anything; the PDF is processed in your browser.

Build the PDF without the blanks

Find the pages judged blank, select them, and rebuild the PDF without them
  1. Drop a PDF or click “Choose files”. Try “Use sample” to see how it works.

  2. Pages judged blank are labelled “Judged blank” and their thumbnails are faded.

  3. Adjust the sensitivity to change the result. Nothing is selected at first: click “Select the pages judged blank”. To change a page, click it to switch between “remove” and “keep”.

  4. Click “Create PDF without blank pages” or “Save only the blank pages as PDF”, then download.

What it does

Pages with text or writing are never blank

A page with a text layer, or with a written mark of 1.5 mm or more (a letter, a page number, a pencil line), is never judged blank, even when its ink is faint. Small dust alone is not counted as a mark.

Tolerates dust and show-through

Blankness is measured against the page’s own background (median brightness). A slightly grey sheet is still blank if it has few dark specks or lines.

Ignores the page edges

The outer 3% of each page (scanner shadows, punch marks) is left out of the judgement.

Check before you save

Nothing is removed automatically. Review the blank pages on screen, switch individual pages, then save.

Save the blank pages separately

Extract only the pages to be removed as their own PDF, for checking or records.

Use cases

  • Remove the blank back sides of a duplex scan in one go
  • Clean up a PDF with stray blank pages without checking each page
  • Check a page that looks blank but must be kept before saving

Limits & notes

  • Also works on phones and tablets, but a PC is more reliable for checking the pages one by one.
  • Up to 300 MB and 2000 pages per file.
  • Each page is judged from an image about 850 pixels on its longest side. Ink share is counted in pixels; the size of a mark is measured on paper in mm.
  • No OCR. Whether a page has text is judged from the PDF’s text layer.
  • Removed pages are not in the saved PDF. Bookmarks and form fields may be lost in the saved PDF.

Privacy & safety

Judging, removing and saving all happen in your browser; your PDF is never sent to a server.

FAQ

Are blank pages removed automatically?
No. Only the pages you select with “Select the pages judged blank” are taken out when you save. You can check the selection on screen before saving, and switch any page.
Why is a page not judged blank?
A page with text, or with a written mark of 1.5 mm or more, is never judged blank. A page with more ink than the sensitivity is not blank either. Raise the sensitivity to catch faint dust.
How do I choose the sensitivity?
Start with the default (0.05%). Raise it if blank pages remain, and lower it if too many pages are judged blank. You can check each page’s result.
Can I remove the blank back sides of a duplex scan at once?
Yes. Click “Select the pages judged blank”, then “Create PDF without blank pages” to save them all at once.
Can I extract only the blank pages into a separate PDF?
Yes. Click “Save only the blank pages as PDF” to get a PDF of just the pages marked for removal.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. Judging and saving both happen in your browser; the PDF is never sent to a server.
