PDF Title & Author Editor

Change the title, author, subject and other document properties of a PDF. The XMP packet that Acrobat and other apps read is set to the same values, so old names are less likely to show. Page content stays as it is, and nothing is uploaded.

What to change

When “Clear” is on, the field is emptied and its input is not used.

Shown as the name in the browser tab and in Acrobat’s title bar.

An empty field leaves the value unchanged.

An empty field leaves the value unchanged.

An empty field leaves the value unchanged.

The name of the app that made the original document.

The name of the converter that saved the PDF. An empty field leaves the value unchanged.

Each file gets its own name (without .pdf) as its title.

For example ja, en or en-US. An empty field leaves the value unchanged.

Enter a date and time to set it. “Clear” empties it.

Name shown in tabs and title bars

With “Show title”, browser tabs and Acrobat’s title bar show the title instead of the file name.

Page text, pages and images are not changed. The XMP packet (extra information that Acrobat and other apps read) is brought in line with the Info values too.

How to use

  1. proposal.pdfOld title and author
    quote.pdfOld author only
    Document info (properties)Info and XMP

    Add PDFs (several at once)

  2. proposal.pdf
    quote.pdf
Document info (properties)Title and author changed

    Enter new values; XMP follows

  3. proposal_edited.pdfBody text unchanged
    quote_edited.pdf

    Save with the body unchanged

Change a PDF’s title and author and set its XMP to match
  1. Drop PDFs or click “Choose files” (multiple allowed). The current document information and XMP are shown.

  2. Enter new values under “What to change”. Empty fields are left as they are; tick “Clear” to empty a field.

  3. Click “Set titles from file names” to use each file’s name as its title.

  4. Click “Edit and save”. The saved file is read back and the values before and after are compared in a table.

  5. Download the single file, or each file / all as a ZIP. Files are named “name_edited.pdf”.

What it does

Info and XMP set to the same values

Eight properties, such as title and author, are written to both Info and XMP, so Acrobat is less likely to show an old XMP value.

Before and after compared

The saved file is read back, and the values before and after are shown side by side. Any item that does not match what was written is reported.

Tab and title-bar name

With “Show title”, browser tabs and Acrobat’s title bar show the title instead of the file name.

Japanese and emoji

Titles and other fields keep Japanese and emoji. This tool’s name is not written as the producer.

Batch and fully local

Edit several PDFs in turn and save them one by one or as a ZIP. Files are never uploaded or sent to a server.

Use cases

  • Replace an internal title or author name with the official one before sending a quote or report
  • Show a title that differs from the file name in browser tabs and Acrobat’s title bar
  • Add the same author name or keywords to many PDFs at once
  • Correct the created and modified dates to match the material

Limits & notes

  • Up to 300 MB per file. Multiple files are processed one at a time.
  • Each field holds up to 1,000 characters. Dates are written to the second, as PDF dates.
  • XMP packets up to 1 MB are read and written. You can choose whether to create XMP where a file has none.
  • The file is rewritten, so digital signatures become invalid. Incremental saving (keeping earlier versions) is not used, so earlier revisions are not carried over.
  • Works in phone and tablet browsers too. The before-and-after table is easier to read on a PC.

Privacy & safety

Loading, editing and saving all happen in your browser. Your PDF, its contents and file names are never sent to or stored on a server.

FAQ

How do I show the title instead of the file name in browser tabs?
Choose “Show title” under the name shown in tabs and title bars, enter a title and click “Edit and save”. Some browsers and Acrobat only update the name after the file is opened again.
An old author or title still shows in Acrobat. Why?
Acrobat can show the XMP packet instead of the Info values. This tool writes both with the same values, so open the edited PDF again to check.
How do I remove the author name or other information?
Tick “Clear” for the field. To remove author names, edit history and comments together, use the metadata cleaner, which lets you check what is removed.
Can I edit a digitally signed PDF?
Yes, but the signature becomes invalid because the file is rewritten. Edit first, then sign again.
Can the title contain Japanese or emoji?
Yes. Titles are written as UTF-16, so Japanese text and emoji are kept as typed.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. Everything runs in your browser and your PDF never leaves your device.
