PDF Metadata Cleaner

Before you share a PDF, see and remove the hidden personal data in it: author name, comment authors, attachments and more. Compare items before and after, and process many files at once. Nothing is uploaded.

On-device・No upload

Your files and input are processed only inside your browser on this device and are never uploaded to our servers.

What to remove

Leave empty to clear. Only the values you type are written.

Form fields

Form fields are left as they are.

How to use

  1. Drop PDFs or click “Choose files” (multiple allowed). The metadata they contain is analyzed automatically and shown as counts.

  2. Choose what to remove under “What to remove”. Everything except form fields is on by default. Type a title or author if you want to set new values.

  3. Click “Clean”. The saved file is read back and the items before and after are compared in a table.

  4. Download the single file, or each file / all as a ZIP. Files are named “name_clean.pdf”.

  5. Personal data written inside page text or images is not removed, so check the content before sharing.

What it does

See what is inside first

Shows the eight info fields (title, author, subject, keywords, creator, producer, created, modified) plus XMP, JavaScript, attachments, comments and their author names, and form field counts.

Verified by re-reading the output

The saved PDF is loaded again and inspected the same way, and before / after are shown side by side — nothing is assumed to be gone.

No library fingerprint either

Many tools stamp their own name as the creating software on save; this one does not. Data no longer referenced after removal (attachment bodies, old metadata) is dropped from the file too.

Keep links, remove comments

Notes, text boxes, highlights, underlines, strikeouts, ink, shapes and file attachments are removed; links stay. Forms can be kept, flattened or removed.

Batch and fully local

Process several PDFs in turn and save them one by one or as a ZIP. Files are never uploaded or sent to a server.

Use cases

  • Remove the author name and internal app name from quotes and reports sent outside the company
  • Hand out a review copy without comment author names and attachments
  • Clear name and PC-derived properties from application or HR documents
  • Strip embedded JavaScript and auto-run actions before sharing a PDF

Limits & notes

  • Up to 300 MB per file. Multiple files are processed one at a time.
  • Page text, images and the EXIF data inside images are not changed. For GPS in photos use “Image metadata cleaner”.
  • Because the file is rewritten, digital signatures become invalid, and earlier revisions (incremental updates) are not carried over.
  • Comment annotations removed: notes, text boxes, highlights, underlines, strikeouts, squiggly, ink, square, circle, line, polygon, file attachments and popups. Stamps and links are kept.

Privacy & safety

Loading, inspecting, cleaning and saving all happen in your browser. Your PDF, its contents and file names are never sent to or stored on a server.

FAQ

How do I remove the author name from a PDF?
Open the PDF, keep “Document info” checked and click “Clean”. Author, title, subject, keywords, creator, producer and dates are cleared. To write a different name, type it under “Set an author”.
Does removing metadata also remove personal data in the body?
No. Names written on the pages and signature or face images stay. This tool removes data stored behind the document: document info, XMP, comment authors, attachments, JavaScript and so on.
Are links removed along with comments?
No. Only comment annotations such as notes, highlights and ink are removed; URL and in-document links are kept.
Can I clean a digitally signed PDF?
You can, but the signature becomes invalid because the file is rewritten. Clean first, then sign again.
Does it work on password-protected PDFs?
No. The contents cannot be read, so remove the password protection first (only if you are authorised to).
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. Everything runs in your browser and your PDF never leaves your device.
