Universal File Inspector

Drop any file to see its real format (from the content), its structure and metadata, what to watch out for, and which tools can process it — before opening it, or before sending it to someone.

On-device・No upload

Your files and input are processed only inside your browser on this device and are never uploaded to our servers.

Drop any file (several at once is fine)

or

The real format is identified from the content, with structure, metadata, warnings and the tools that can use it. Files are never uploaded.Paste (Ctrl+V) also works

How to use

  1. Drop the files to check or click “Choose files” (any format, several at once).

  2. Select a file on the left to see the detected format and “Things to watch”, ordered by severity.

  3. Review the details for its format: camera data, PDF pages and author, Office author and company, ZIP contents, and more.

  4. Use “Fix with …” to open the right tool with the file already loaded, or “Use in another tool” for other processing.

What it does

Real format from the content

File signatures (magic numbers) identify PDFs, images, Office documents, archives, audio, video and executables, exposing mismatched or double extensions and right-to-left override tricks. Word/Excel/PowerPoint are identified by their internal structure.

Personal data before you share

Finds photo GPS, author names and serial numbers; PDF authors, comments and attachments; Office authors, last editors, company, comments, tracked changes and hidden sheets/slides.

Risks before you open

Warns about Office macros, PDF JavaScript, scripts in SVG, executables, zip bombs, path-traversal entries and executables inside archives.

Fast on big files

Only the parts needed are read, so multi-GB archives and videos are inspected without extracting or playing them.

Fix it right away

Fixable issues (e.g. removing GPS, fixing encodings) hand the file straight to the right tool.

Use cases

  • Check an email attachment for fake extensions, macros or JavaScript before opening it
  • Make sure a photo has no GPS location or author name before posting it
  • Check Word/Excel files for author names, tracked changes, hidden sheets or comments before sending them
  • Find out why a file will not open: wrong extension or a truncated download
  • List a ZIP’s contents without extracting and spot garbled names or junk files

Limits & notes

  • This is not antivirus software. No “Danger” finding does not mean a file is safe.
  • PDF details up to 150 MB; text and image metadata are read from the first 16 MB.
  • ZIP listings cover the first 5,000 entries (500 shown). Encrypted entries are not read.
  • Audio/video duration is shown only for formats your browser supports.

Privacy & safety

Files are inspected on your device only. Nothing is uploaded or stored, and results are not recorded.

FAQ

Does renaming the extension change the format?
No. The extension is just part of the name; the content stays the same. This tool reads the content, so it shows the real format even when the extension is wrong. Use a converter to change formats.
How do I remove GPS location from a photo?
Click “Fix with Image Metadata Cleaner” in the findings to open that tool with the photo loaded. Image quality is not changed.
Where do Word or Excel author names show up?
They are stored in the file properties and anyone who opens the file info can see them. Company names, tracked changes and hidden sheets also travel with the file, so check before sending files outside.
Can this tool scan for viruses?
No. It flags suspicious traits such as macros or disguised extensions but does not replace antivirus software.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Everything is inspected in your browser and files never leave your device.

Extract Anything

Open a file and get its text, images, tables, URLs / e-mail / phone numbers, QR codes and barcodes, attachments and metadata, each with a count and the place it came from (file, page, sheet). What could not be extracted is explained. OCR is not supported.

Metadata Studio

A workbench for looking at, fixing and comparing the author, company, capture time and location stored in photos, PDFs and Office files. Every edit is re-read and verified, with a before/after diff. To just strip everything, use the dedicated remover tools.

Archive Studio — ZIP, TAR & tar.gz Viewer, Extractor & Creator

Drop a ZIP, TAR, tar.gz or gz to list what is inside — including ZIPs made on Japanese Windows whose file names are normally garbled. Extract safely, re-create a ZIP with UTF-8 names, or build a ZIP / tar.gz from folders. Everything runs on your device.

Batch Rename

Combine rules to rename files in bulk. Check old → new names live, catch duplicates and invalid names, then save renamed copies as a ZIP or into a folder. Files are never uploaded.

Duplicate Files

Load a whole folder and see groups of files whose content is byte-for-byte identical, with the space they waste. Nothing is uploaded and nothing is deleted: save the keep/duplicate verdicts as CSV or JSON and clean up with your own file manager.

File Hash — Checksum Calculator & Verifier

Drop a file to get its SHA-256 (and more); paste the published hash to see match or mismatch instantly. Even multi-gigabyte ISOs are read in chunks on your own device — nothing is uploaded.
